We captured the live Google Search results page for 1,000 Bahasa Indonesia keywords and logged every AI Overview it produced — 7,140 citations across 1,578 domains. Which categories always get an AI answer, which queries Google still leaves alone, and why YouTube — not any news site — is the most-cited source in every single category.
The core
What we measured
We captured the live Google SERP for 1,000 Bahasa Indonesia keywords — roughly 250 each across Computers & Electronics, Health, Entertainment, and News — on 23–24 July 2026, and logged every AI Overview with its full source panel. 930 of the 1,000 keywords (93.0%) produced an AI Overview. Coverage is near-total in Computers & Electronics (98.8%) and Health (97.0%); the only real gap is News at 80.7%, and the 70 keywords with no AI Overview cluster tightly around live data: exchange rates, match schedules, earthquake updates, "near me" services. When the answer box does appear, it cites 7.7 sources on average — and 19.3% of all those citations point to YouTube.
Our verdict
For Indonesian queries, the question is no longer whether an AI answer will sit above your result — at 93.0% coverage, it will. The competition has moved inside the answer box, and the box has clear house rules: video beats text (YouTube is the #1 cited domain in all four categories, including Health), two health portals gatekeep an entire category, and news publishers are almost absent from the very feature that is replacing their clicks. The winners in this dataset are not the sites that rank — they are the sources the AI Overview likes to quote: YouTube channels, health portals, marketplaces, and long-tail specialist pages.

Transparency
This is a primary-data study of the live Google Search results page, not a synthesis. Every number below was computed from a single logged dataset, and the capture script and keyword set are archived alongside the raw JSON so the results can be regenerated.
Data collection
On 23–24 July 2026 we loaded the live Google Search results page for 1,000 Bahasa Indonesia keywords using a browser-automation port of Intura's AI Overview capture extension. The script drives the real SERP DOM — it expands the AI Overview panel, clicks "show all", and reads each source card — then logs the answer text, every citation (title, source, snippet, URL, domain), and the raw HTML for audit. Keywords that showed no AI Overview were retried up to three times before being recorded as absent.
Keyword set
The 1,000 keywords span four categories — Computers & Electronics (245), Health (265), Entertainment (246), and News (244) — generated and labeled by search intent (informational, commercial, transactional, local, navigational) in a separate calibration step. 84.9% are informational, matching how Indonesians actually phrase these queries: "kenapa hp cepat panas", "manfaat kunyit putih", "drakor romantis terbaru".
Locale, transparently
The capture ran with Google's interface locale set to English/US (hl=en, gl=us) — the extension's default, which surfaces the AI Overview panel most reliably — while every keyword is Bahasa Indonesia. Google answered in Bahasa Indonesia and cited overwhelmingly Indonesian sources anyway, but a run pinned to gl=id could shift individual numbers. Treat the figures as a July 2026 snapshot of that configuration, not a universal constant.
Citation counting
AI Overview panels frequently list the same page twice — once as an inline link chip, once as a source card. We deduplicated citations by URL within each answer (192 of 930 answers were affected), which is why we report 7,140 citations rather than the raw 7,880. All domain shares and source counts in this report use the deduplicated figures.
Statistics
Proportions are reported with Wilson 95% confidence intervals. Group differences use Pearson chi-square with Cramér's V effect sizes, and Kruskal–Wallis for the right-skewed source counts. At ~250 keywords per category, any within-category percentage carries a worst-case margin of error of ±6.3 points at 95% confidence; pooled figures carry ±3.1 points. Significance threshold α = 0.05.
Limitations — read before quoting
The first gate
The near-universal headline hides a clean gradient. Computers & Electronics is effectively saturated — 242 of 245 keywords (98.8%) get an AI Overview — and Health is barely behind at 97.0%. News is the outlier at 80.7%, and the gap is not random: Google systematically withholds the AI Overview from queries that need live data. Answer depth varies just as sharply — an Electronics answer cites 9.2 sources on average, a News answer 6.3, the widest depth gap in the study.
| Category | AI Overview shown | Presence rate | Wilson 95% CI | Sources per answer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Computers & Electronics | 242/245 | 98.8% | 96.5–99.6% | 9.21 |
| Health | 257/265 | 97.0% | 94.2–98.5% | 8.18 |
| Entertainment | 234/246 | 95.1% | 91.7–97.2% | 6.76 |
| News | 197/244 | 80.7% | 75.3–85.2% | 6.31 |
χ²(3) = 77.06 · p = 1.3×10⁻¹⁶ · Cramér's V = 0.28
What it means
If you compete in Electronics or Health, there is no realistic scenario where your audience searches and does not see an AI answer first. Ranking #1 in the classic sense now means ranking #1 below the answer box.
The remaining gap
Search intent still moves the needle, but in the opposite direction from SEO intuition: commercial keywords are the most likely to get an AI Overview (98.4%), and local "near me" keywords the least (67.5%). The sharper pattern sits in the keyword text itself. Keywords carrying "harga", "cara", "rekomendasi", or question words get an answer 98–100% of the time — while "hari ini" (72.2%), "terdekat" (70.6%), and schedule/live-stream hooks (74.4%) drop far below the 93.0% baseline. Read the full holdout list and it sounds like a news ticker: "kurs rupiah hari ini", "hasil liga 1 indonesia", "info banjir", "jadwal krl hari ini", "apotek 24 jam".

The 70 keywords with no AI Overview
47 of the 70 holdout keywords are News; sports results, schedules, and live streams (14), natural disasters (9), and politics (6) lead the list, followed by "near me" health and retail services (13 local-intent keywords). By intent: 54 informational, 13 local, 2 transactional, 1 commercial.

The classic SERP — and 100% of its clicks — survives exactly where the answer must be live: breaking news, scores, schedules, prices that change hourly, and "near me". If your traffic depends on anything else, assume the AI Overview is already standing between you and the click.
The citation map
We classified all 7,140 deduplicated citations with a hand-built domain ruleset. The result upends the assumption that Google's AI cites the "authoritative web": social and video platforms take 29.2% of all citations — more than four times the 7.0% that goes to news and media outlets. Health portals and hospitals collect 17.6% (almost entirely inside Health), e-commerce 8.3%, government sites 2.9% — and Google cites its own properties 2.8% of the time. The long-tail is enormous: 26.3% of citations go to roughly 1,100 domains that each hold a fraction of a percent.

Category by category, the pattern repeats: YouTube first. It is the single most-cited domain in Computers & Electronics (20.9%), News (22.0%), Entertainment (15.4%) — and even Health, where it edges Halodoc 18.8% to 18.7%. Below YouTube, each category has its own gatekeepers: marketplaces in Electronics, the Halodoc–Alodokter duopoly plus hospital sites in Health, Wikipedia and streaming platforms in Entertainment, Instagram in News. Concentration is stark — the top 10% of domains absorb 72.1% of all citations (Gini 0.73) — yet the door stays open: 68.0% of cited domains got in with a single page.

The platform layer
YouTube is not just the top domain — it is a structural layer of the AI Overview. 58.0% of all 930 answers cite at least one YouTube video, from 70.7% in Computers & Electronics down to 44.0% in Entertainment. Nearly half of all captured answer texts (46.8%) embed a video timestamp: the AI Overview does not merely link a video, it deep-links the exact second that answers the query. Instagram is the #3 cited domain overall at 5.6% and reaches 9.1% of News citations — Google's AI now treats Instagram posts as citable news sources. Health shows the other face of platform power: 94.6% of Health AI Overviews cite Halodoc or Alodokter, and the pair take 34.1% of the category's citations between them.
| Category | YouTube share of citations | Answers citing ≥1 video |
|---|---|---|
| Computers & Electronics | 20.9% | 70.7% |
| Health | 18.8% | 63.4% |
| News | 22.0% | 51.8% |
| Entertainment | 15.4% | 44.0% |
46.8% of answer texts embed a video timestamp · Instagram takes 5.6% of all citations · Halodoc + Alodokter hold 34.1% of Health citations, present in 94.6% of Health answers
What it means
For GEO in Indonesia right now, a chaptered YouTube video is the single highest-probability citation asset — it can be quoted, timestamped, and surfaced in categories where your website never will be. And if you are a health brand, presence on Halodoc and Alodokter is not PR — it is distribution.
What to act on
The AI Overview is the default SERP now
At 93.0% coverage — 98.8% in Electronics, 97.0% in Health — the AI answer box is not a feature that sometimes appears; it is the page. Content strategy that stops at "rank on page one" is optimizing for the space below the fold.
Real-time and "near me" are the last AI-free queries
The 70 holdout keywords are a coherent set: exchange rates, match results, disaster updates, schedules, and local services. "Hari ini" keywords get an answer 72.2% of the time, "terdekat" 70.6% — against a 93.0% baseline. That is where classic SEO still buys a full click.
YouTube is the #1 cited source in every category — including Health
19.3% of all 7,140 citations point to YouTube; 58.0% of answers cite at least one video, and 46.8% of answer texts carry a timestamp deep-link. A chaptered video answering a common question is currently the most citable format on the Indonesian SERP.
Health is gatekept by two portals
Halodoc and Alodokter together take 34.1% of Health citations and appear in 94.6% of Health AI Overviews; hospital sites fill much of the rest. For anything health-adjacent, being present on those portals is close to a precondition for being in the answer.
News media lose twice
News and media outlets collect 7.0% of all citations — and even inside the News category they take 19.8%, behind social platforms at 33.5%. The feature that absorbs the news click prefers to cite YouTube and Instagram over the publishers who broke the story. The long-tail is the counterweight: 68.0% of cited domains appear exactly once, so a single, specific, well-structured page can still get in.

One of the 70 holdouts, and the pattern in miniature: a query whose answer changes by the minute gets no AI Overview at all — even after three attempts. Real-time queries are where the classic SERP, and the publishers ranking in it, keep 100% of the clicks.
